It seems like just yesterday that I was asking Brand Evangelist, Tyler Hurst, at Skora if the Phase was enough shoe for a marathon. He steered me in the direction of the Base due to the fact that I had never run in a zero drop shoe. Here I am 300 miles later and in the final few weeks of training for my October marathon. I am 100% confident that the Base will be more than adequate for 26.2 miles when I need them.

Nine weeks into my sixteen week marathon training program, and I tweak my calf muscle. I got a sharp pain on the inside of my left leg’s calf muscle. I have had calf strains in the past. In 2012, a calf muscle tear caused me to miss the Apple Blossom 10k that I had been training for. So, as soon as I felt the strain at mile twelve of my fourteen miler, I stopped an walked the rest of the way home. I knew it was not a bad strain and decided to take a few days off from my training. Personally, I have not hit the proverbial wall, but as my October marathon looms closer and closer, I can’t help to have that fear in the back of my mind. My friend and fellow Running Dad, Shane Curtis, who I had run 22 of the 26.2 miles of the Shamrock Marathon in March of 2013 – before he left me in his dust – recently experienced the dreaded wall in Alaska. His story is below. I have no doubt he will be on his game when he tackles the Richmond Marathon in November. (more…)

UPDATE – The Sponsor a Running Dad campaign for the 2013 Baltimore Marathon helped to raise over $1650.00 for the babies and their families at the UVA NICU. Thank you to all who donated and to Team Running Dad!
Lucas Carson Sanders was born September 18, 2004. He passed away shortly after he was born due to hydrops fetalis. In that short period of time that he blessed us with his presence, he touched the lives of many people.
In memory of Lucas, my wife, Jennifer, and I set up The Lucas Fund. The money raised in his memory is going to the babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UVA. The money will be used to provide the babies with diapers, blankets, pacifers, and any other necessities the babies and their families might need during their stay.
In July of 2013, I pledged to donate a dollar per mile that I run at the end of each month. I am also putting together a Team Running Dad for the Baltimore Marathon in October of 2013. We hope to raise enough money through the Lucas Fund to help as many babies and their families as possible.
SPONSOR A TEAM RUNNING DAD runner in the Baltimore Marathon! $1 per mile is only $26.20. Go to www.forlucas.com and donate today!

Now that I have had a chance to run for varying distances and conditions, I can give a true review of the Skora Base. I have put slightly over 100 miles on them in the first month since purchased. (more…)
